The total energy consumption is useful for estimating the environmental footprint of the data centre. This should also take into account backup equipment (generators, UPS, etc.). However, having a breakdown of this consumption by usage is much more meaningful, as some indicators are only calculated with more precise data (e.g. PUE). In addition, such breakdown allows to identify the points that consume the most energy in order to implement actions to reduce them.
